Primeras Jornadas de Adquisición del Lenguaje y Enseñanza de Segundas Lenguas
El 3 y 4 de junio se desarrollarán en la Universidad Nacional de General Sarmiento (UNGS) la “I Jornadas de Adquisición del lenguaje y Enseñanza de segundas lenguas”.
Organizadas por el Instituto del Desarrollo Humano de la Universidad, “las Jornadas están orientadas a propiciar un ámbito de intercambio en el que se analicen las relaciones que existen entre la adquisición de una primera lengua y la adquisición de una segunda lengua o extranjera y se difundan las investigaciones que se están llevando a cabo en estos campos”, explican los organizadores. 2010 SHARE Convention
We are very proud to invite all our readers to the 2010 SHARE Convention to be held at Regente Palace Hotel, Suipacha 964 in the City of Buenos Aires on Thursday July 29th and Friday July 30th, 2010 during the school winter holidays.
As in the previous four editions of the Convention, there will be a pre-convention seminar offered by Macmillan on Wenesday July 28th in the afternoon and The Bs. As. Players will offer the Play “Shakexperience” during the first day of the Convention (all this is included in the price of the Convention ticket). This year all participants will also receive, as a special treat, a 100 page handout for free.
The Convention fee for a group of 4 teachers enrolling before 30th of April is at an all-time low: $ 115 (pesos argentinos).
The list of speakers includes some of the best known and most celebrated ELT professionals from the Universities, Colleges of Education and Language Schools in our country as well as a number of speakers from abroad, among them:

Segundas Jornadas Internacionales del Instituto Superior en Lenguas Vivas
El Instituto de Enseñanza Superior en Lenguas Vivas “Juan Ramón Fernández” reitera la convocatoria para las Segundas Jornadas Internacionales sobre Formación e investigación en lenguas extranjeras y traducción, que se realizarán en la ciudad de Buenos Aires, Argentina, los días miércoles 2, jueves 3 y viernes 4 de junio de 2010.
Estas jornadas aspiran a constituir un espacio de reflexión y actualización en disciplinas vinculadas con la traducción y con la enseñanza de las lenguas extranjeras y segundas. Aspiran, también, a propiciar en esas áreas el intercambio y la discusión de experiencias y de trabajos de investigación.
Las Segundas Jornadas Internacionales sobre Formación e investigación en lenguas extranjeras y traducción han sido declaradas de Interés Educativo por la Secretaría de Educación del Ministerio de Educación de la Nación (Resolución N° 59 del 23 de febrero de 2010).
Se convoca a la presentación de ponencias que constituyan un aporte a la reflexión sobre la docencia y/o la investigación en las disciplinas afines a la traducción y a la enseñanza de las lenguas extranjeras y segundas. Curso de pedagogía de fonética inglesa en la UNSAM
El Centro de Posgrado para el Estudio de Lenguas (CePEL) de la Escuela de Humanidades de la Universidad Nacional de San Martín presenta el curso ‘Pedagogía de la fonética de la lengua inglesa’, que será dictado por las Profesoras Clemencia Baraldi de Durán y Roxana Basso. El mismo tendrá una modalidad semipresencial (cuatro horas, sábado por medio) y tendrá una duración de un cuatrimestre por módulo, siendo en total tres módulos. Win a Creative Writing Course at Oxford

Fewer schools hit language target
French and German have fallen most.
Fewer secondary schools in England are meeting a government target on pupils taking a GCSE in a modern foreign language, a survey suggests.
Ministers want schools to have “between 50% and 90%” of pupils taking a modern foreign language at GCSE.
But a survey for The National Centre for Languages (Cilt) suggests only 40% of state schools meet this target - and that the trend is downwards.

Phone texting ‘helps pupils to spell’
Children who regularly use the abbreviated language of text messages are actually improving their ability to spell correctly, research suggests.
A study of eight to 12 year olds found that rather than damaging reading and writing, “text speak” is associated with strong literacy skills.
Researchers say text language uses word play and requires an awareness of how sounds relate to written English.
This link between texting and literacy has proved a surprise, say researchers.
These latest findings of an ongoing study at the University of Coventry contradict any expectation that prolonged exposure to texting will erode a child’s ability to spell.
